One of the lightest low-mineralized mineral waters in the world – natural water "Acqua Panna" – comes from an underground source in the Apennines, breaking through the layers of rocks, thereby naturally purified and saturated with minerals. The water has a perfectly balanced, fresh, non-carbonated taste that can enhance even the most delicate flavors, making it an excellent addition to culinary delights. Water has a low sodium content, but presence of such minerals as calcium, sulfates and bicarbonates.
The mineral water takes the name "Panna" from the place of its discovery at Villa Panna, in the hills of Tuscany, north of Florence. This site belonged to the Medici family in the 16th century. This fact played a big role in the recognition of water, as the Medici were famous for their sumptuous feasts with a variety of exquisite dishes, at which, among other things, mineral water from their source was served. In 1860, the next owners of Villa Panna, the Marquises Torrigiani, began to fill water in 54-liter braided bottles, and in 1910 they launched the production of Acqua Panna water in 1-liter glass bottles. In 1938, Count Contini Bonaccossi founds the company "Societa Panna" for the production of water "Acqua Panna". The famous San Pellegrino company buys out the Acqua Panna brand in 1957. Interestingly, the Aqua Panna plant became the first in Italy to own a line for filling water into plastic bottles in 1970. In 2003 "Aqua Panna" became the official water of the International Sommelier Association.
